Koh Samui: The green side

Koh Samui is a heavenly destination for anyone seeking adventure, relaxation and above all culinary delights. Over a long weekend in Samui, here’s what we discovered…

Sala Samui Resort & Spa, Bophut

imageBreakfast @ Sala

Staying at the Sala Samui was one of our best decisions. This neat resort is tucked away from the hustle bustle of Samui and every morning begins with breakfast by the beach front. With a wide variety of daily a la carte specials served hot from the kitchen, fruit smoothies made to order and baked goodies we had a power packed start every day. Breakfast here is a perfect balance of an energizing and harmonious start to a day of adventure.

Budget: Breakfast included with Stay

Green Picks: Kai Loog Kuey (Eggs in Tamarind sauce), Egg white Omelet with Chili Jam, Eggs Cocotte with Minted Peas and Asparagus, Seasonal fruit salad

The menu has several vegetarian options from the Antipasti, Primi, Pizza and most certainly the Dolci. The Aperitivi of toasted foccacia with marinated olives and balsamic is on the house and a nice start to a lovely meal that awaits you. Pair your meal with some Italian wines, Prosecco or a Sala signature cocktail.

Le Garden, Fisherman’s Village

imageThere seem to be an abundance of French restaurants in Samui and Le Garden is yet another new restaurant on the block in Fisherman’s Village. Olypme is lovely host and Le Garden gets its name from the charming garden patio where you may find a few playful cats. Though the menu is small, the portions are generous and tasteful. Do try the meringues and some Rhum Agricole as a digestif.

Budget: SGD 15-20/ head

Green Picks: Mojito with Rhum Agricole, Homemade Fries, Feta Cheese on crispy toast with tomatoes, cucumber & Tapenade, Penne Pasta with Creamy Sauce and truffles

imageSunset Cafe

Sunset points are on everyone’s to-do list at almost every holiday destination. Sunset Café is by far the most charming, little (literally) place with simply stunning views of a picturesque sunset. Located just by the road to the Big Buddha, Sunset café is French and serves European fare and some amazing cocktails. Fresh, cold tender coconut is perfect for those who prefer a non-alcoholic sun-downer.

Budget: SGD 10 / head for drinks and Bar bites

Location: At the entrance to Big Buddha, Bophut

imageCoCo Tam’s @The Wharf

As you walk down Fisherman’s village, Coco Tam’s is the cutest beach bar that you can’t miss. With coconut Gazebos, Swings at the bar and beachfront divans, if you are looking for a place to chill and unwind post dinner, look no further. We stopped by for some cocktails by the sea and Coco Tam’s doesn’t disappoint. With a great ambience and casual open décor it’s the perfect Idyllic spot to end your vacation.

Budget:  SGD 10 / head for drinks and Bar bites

Location: Opp the Wharf, Fisherman’s Village
